Buoyancy

Brooklyn Fashion Week, 2016

Inspiration

The collection is informed by the emotional landscape following the 2015 Chennai floods.

It reflects on a moment where the city experienced disruption, and the collective response that followed, marked by resilience, continuity, and a sense of community.

Platform

Presented at Brooklyn Fashion Week, 2016

Work

The collection explores:

  • hand-sketched architectural elements referencing historic colonial buildings
  • structured placement of motifs across garments
  • blue piping as a linear intervention within the form

The piping moves through the garment as a defined line, intersecting surfaces and construction, while maintaining continuity across pattern and cut.

The development required precision in aligning motifs across seams, with piping integrated between cut lines as both structure and detail.

Presentation

The collection was presented at Brooklyn Fashion Week, accompanied by a spoken address reflecting on the work's context and the idea of collective response.

The presentation was received with a standing ovation.
